Examples of Arts Partnerships

Young Audiences has developed partnerships with schools, districts, BOCES, alternative education centers and teaching artists.  These partnerships include ongoing consulting and professional development for educators, intensive residencies and other programs for students, and ongoing assessment and revision.  This is arts-in-education at its best – with demonstrated positive impact on teaching and learning over time!

“Language Arts” meet “Visual and Performing Arts”

Arts for Learning (A4L) Literacy Project helps students develop important literacy skills of reading and writing in the context of creating exciting visual art and original performances.  Arts for Learning Lessons include classroom ready arts-integrated curriculum units and materials, professional development and follow-up coaching to prepare and support classroom teachers for implementation. Residencies can be provided by teaching artists to deepen the learning experience.  Students use and practice necessary literacy skills through authentic arts experiences and participate in activities in an ongoing cycle of action, reflection and revision.  Storytelling, writing, acting, singing and dancing ultimately allow the students to perform for others and inform the audience about the learning strategies they used.

Better Day Buddies and YAR Artists Brighten the Day…

The Better Day Buddies program at the Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong began in February, 2008.  This program provides young people ages 2-20 in outpatient treatment with craft activities and stories 4 days a week. Children and their families participate in these activities and receive “goody bags” to keep. The bags are provided by CompassionNet Excellus/Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Better Day Buddies is also partnering with Young Audiences of Rochester to bring in performing artists twice a month. Young Audiences has provided storytelling, caricatures, poem writing and music for the children and their families. This partnership is made possible through the generous donation of Maxine Peters' family, a beloved volunteer and close family friend.
