PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Orchestrate Your Own School Mural Project - A Teacher Planning Workshop
Ms. Essley will prepare a team of educators for implementation of a mural project to be created by school staff and students. The project team will participate in pre-workshop preparations via phone and email with Ms. Essley. She will then provide a mural composition based on the concepts and content developed by the school-based team of educators and students. At the on-site teacher workshop that follows, Ms. Essley will accomplish two primary goals: she will prepare teachers to manage the completion of the mural process, including material set up, scheduling, what to paint and when, and any special brush technique, etc. and she will explain the composition of the mural for content integration with non-art curriculum, so it can be used as a teaching tool by all teachers.
NOTE: Mural work may address art, math, social studies, language arts, science, citizenship or any other theme depending on the school and teacher's preference. Please allow two months for workshop preparation. |

Mural Workshop/Residency
Students plan, research, compose and create a mural, or other collaborative work, such as a wall relief or installation. Ms. Essley assists students and teachers in identifying relevant historic and stylistic visual art, teaches applicable drawing and painting techniques and leads students in painting the mural. She helps create study guides for presentation of mural content to the entire school community. A one-day minimum is required to complete a finished work of art for public display. Planning sessions by phone and email are required. |
